Residence 13
Washington, D.C.
Time for departure! Little by little, our client spent years meticulously restoring the dark carved woodwork and fine details of the main living areas of her Capitol Hill townhouse. For the finale, her kitchen, she wanted a more modern approach.
This kitchen addresses the age-old townhouse problem of entering at an extreme corner. Custom cabinets “accordion” out from a sharp point, avoiding an uncomfortable view of a cabinet side yet maximizing storage. The angled theme is repeated in the orientation of the island. Together the angles guide the visitor through a decidedly modern kitchen toward romantic alley view. A beautiful walnut breakfast bar contrasts with the maple cabinets, and up-lighting in both counters and cabinets provides a dramatic setting for evening entertaining.
